The Christmas Spirit® Shop is Bar Harbor's Christmas Shop, and we're as unique as our island resort village on the rock-bound coast of Maine. Before we met, we each expressed our creativity through drawing and painting, always admiring the work of professional artists. Because Christmas is our favorite time of year, we were married on Christmas Eve. Together we spent our vacations in historic New England, hunting for that special Christmas shop reminiscent of one-of-a-kind American craftsmanship. We felt the most thoughtful, personal gifts to share with others at Christmas were ones that were hand-made by professional American craft artists. However, we became more and more frustrated with the lack of selection, and the increasing number of imported, mass-produced merchandise. In 1990, after two decades of corporate life, we quit our city jobs, moved to Bar Harbor, Maine (our favorite vacation spot), and opened that special Christmas shop we had never found. Our shop is dedicated to those who want to capture the Spirit of Christmas with a uniquely hand-crafted gift, made in the USA.
