We invite you to play the videos. See our artists’ skills, feel their spirit, and wonder at their work. From the Navigation Bar on any page of our Website, simply click on “Videos – Artists at Work” next to a tiny TV symbol directly under “Personalized Christmas Ornaments” or “More Gifts”. Here you can watch how handmade Christmas ornaments and hand carved Santas are hand crafted in the USA by our local artists. Watch and listen to three professional Maine craft artists as they entertain you with their hands-on skills in three separate videos. Watch Brian, a Maine woodcarver, make hand carved Santas from old wooden lobster buoys, once used by local lobstermen as flotation markers for their lobster traps. Watch Horace, a Maine scroll saw artist, craft hand cut wooden ornaments from planks of maple hardwood. Watch Jana, a Maine glass artist, create hand formed and hand blown glass ornaments from rods of crystal glass. All three videos were filmed inside the workshops of each Maine artist, where you get a variety of sights and sounds of the artist at work using his or her tools of the trade. Brian wields his mallet, chisels and knife as he carves Santas from old wooden lobster buoys. Horace orchestrates his scroll saw, feeding its tiny blade, adjusting its tension, and guiding it with precision as he cuts intricate designs into wooden angel ornaments and wooden lighthouse ornaments. Jana juggles rods of crystal glass over an open flame as she skillfully forms a green glass hummingbird ornament, a clear glass lobster trap ornament (complete with red glass lobster), and a colorful glass hot air balloon. The Bonos' "Christmas Spirit®" Story Our shop is the culmination of our individual experiences as well as our life together. Before we met, we each expressed our creativity through drawing and painting, always admiring the work of professional artists. Because Christmas is our favorite time of year, we were married on Christmas Eve. Together we spent our vacations in historic New England, hunting for that special Christmas shop reminiscent of one-of-a-kind American craftsmanship. We felt the most thoughtful, personal gifts to share with others at Christmas were ones that were hand-made by professional American craft artists. However, we became more and more frustrated with the lack of selection, and the increasing number of imported, mass-produced merchandise. In 1990, after two decades of corporate life, we quit our city jobs, moved to Bar Harbor, Maine (our favorite vacation spot), and opened that special Christmas shop we had never found. Our shop is dedicated to those who want to capture the Spirit of Christmas with a uniquely hand-crafted gift, made in the USA.
